Volunteer Opportunities

 

Music Guild

The Music Department is always looking for volunteers to help prepare publicity and mailings, host receptions, usher and assist at concerts and special services, and catalog music and tape recordings, as needed. If you are interested, please call the Music Office.

 

Cathedral Bookstore Volunteers

Assist on Sundays and weekdays with sales of books and gifts in the Cathedral Bookstore. Contact Ashlie Darley at stlukebookseller@aol.com.

 

Cathedral Office Volunteers

Assist with various office tasks such as mailings, phone calls, the Courier, substitute for the receptionist, and other special projects. Contact Theo at 407-849-0680

 

Yergey Memorial Library

The Yergey Library houses Diocesan and Cathedral collections of books and periodicals on religion, the devotional life, spiritual healing, and biographies; also recreational reading for adults and children and a tape collection. The library is open to the parish and diocese.  Volunteers to assist maintaining the card catalogue and in creating and maintaining a computer based card catalogue. Men’s Groups

Small groups formed for study, fellowship and support. Contact Dean Tony Clark, 407-849-0680.

 

Men’s Retreat

An annual retreat is held in the fall for men 18 and older; with speakers, worship and time for fellowship. For more information contact Dean Tony Clark or Melissa, 407-849-0680.

 

 

Women’s Ministries

 

St. Elizabeth’s Guild

Serves the Church, community, state, nation and the world by raising money to sponsor special projects. Contact Bev Dunlap, 407-774-1955

 

St. Mary’s Guild

Maintains St. Mary’s Parlor as a meeting room and a place for brides to dress for their weddings. Supports small projects at the Cathedral and in the community.

 

St. Martha’s Guild

Raises funds for Cathedral Charities by selling a variety of handcrafted items. Makes quilts and receiving blankets for “at risk” children and gives them to local hospitals and shelters. Contact Rosemary Atwater, 407-671-6620

 

Women’s Retreat

Greeters

Serve to greet all who enter the doors of the Cathedral for Sunday worship. Provide information, directions and hospitality to visitors. Contact Steve and Kyle Miller, 407-295-7986.

 

Newcomer Dinner

Visitor’s Bags

Prepares bags containing information about the Cathedral, its ministries and programs for distribution to visitors at the Sunday services. Contact Coolege Butler, 407-855-6067.

 

 

Pastoral Care Ministries

 

Food Ministry

Prepares meals for new parents and persons recovering from illness/hospitalization. Contact Helen Weeks, 407-425-5664.

 

Lay Eucharistic Ministers

Approved, trained and licensed to carry the Sacrament to members of the parish who for reason of illness or infirmity are unable to attend services at the Cathedral. Contact Canon Gary L’Hommedieu, 407-849-0680

 

Stephen Ministry

Walking the Mourner’s Path

Prayer and Healing Ministries

 

Expectant Parents Email Prayer Chain

Prays for unborn babies and their parents and for couples trying to conceive.

Inner Healing

Studies tapes, videos and books on various types of inner healing prayer.

Serves as a prayer support group to the members and are available to pray for others. Contact Ellen Smith, 407-898-4425.

 

OSL Email Prayer Chain

Receives prayer requests via email. Contact Terry Fife, tzfife@cox.net.

 

Telephone Prayer Chain

Receives prayer requests, available day and evening. Contact Ellen Smith, 407-898-4425.

 

Sunday Morning Prayer Teams

Teams are stationed at the side altars during communion to meet prayer needs at both 8:00 and 10:15 a.m. services. Contact Ellen Smith, 407-898-4425.

 

The Order of St. Luke

Holds healing services and occasional workshops, book/Bible studies; teaches believers how to be part of this ministry; gives prayer support to individuals in need of healing prayer. Contact Theo Gordon, 407-849-0680

 

 

Worship Ministries

 

Acolytes

Assist priests by performing ceremonial duties such as carrying crosses, torches, banners and incense in processions; assist the deacon and subdeacon in preparing the table for Holy Communion. Contact Acolyte Warden Richard Clark, 407-339-3552.

 

Altar Guild

Prepares the Sacred vessels for use at worship services, cares for the fine linens and sacred vestments, and keeps the sanctuary area clean. Contact Directress Jeanne Brokaw, 407-894-7670.

 

Chalice Bearers

Assist in the administration of Holy Communion at worship services. Contact Joe Atwater, 407-671-6620.

 

Flower Guild

Responsible for all flowers and arrangements used during worship services. Contact Directress Cheryl Dunning, 407-872-0099.

 

Lectors

Read Old and New Testament lessons at the Sunday Eucharists and other services. Appointed by audition. Contact Judi L'Hommedieu, 407-849-0680

 

Ushers

Serve by greeting parishioners, distributing bulletins, receiving and presenting the offering, and directing people during the distribution of Holy Communion. Contact Head Usher Bob Borders, 407-629-6234.

 

Verger Guild

Assists the clergy in the conduct of public worship, especially in the marshalling of processions. In addition to Sunday morning worship services, vergers are involved in ordinations, evensong, funerals, Holy Week and other services as needed. Contact David Tuggle, 407-207-3439.

 

Wedding Guild

Prepares St. Mary’s Parlor and the Cathedral for the wedding; assists the priest and wedding party during the rehearsal and on the wedding day. Contact Lynne Sears, 407-420-4651.
